ShanOre Jewelry: Irish Heritage Through Design

    Shanore Jewelry is a brand deeply inspired by Irish culture, tradition, and craftsmanship. Through its use of meaningful Celtic symbols and distinctly Irish designs, the company has developed a recognizable identity within the jewelry industry. What began as a small family-run business eventually grew into an internationally recognized Irish jewelry brand, with its history playing an important role in shaping the designs and values associated with Shanore today.

History

    Shanore Irish Jewelry is a distinct line of beautifully crafted Irish Jewelry that was first made in Dublin, Ireland in 1979. This line began when founder Frank Maher leased out a property on Talbot Street after losing his previous job. 

    Frank and his wife , Liz , started the Jewelry company from scratch, they hand-crafted all of their Jewelry and sold it under their original name, “FlairCraft”. Very early on in the company's life, they had major success with export orders to the UK, which prompted the founders to focus the company on Irish styles which were becoming very popular in major gift stores around the world in the 80’s and 90’s.

    Frank and Liz’s son Shane had an apprenticeship and trained with a company in London that dealt with Diamonds, giving him knowledge and skills in this field. Under this company's new generation, the brand transitioned from “FlairCraft” into “ShanOre” in 1995 to lean more heavily into the brand's Irish roots and identity it had created for itself.

Interest in Irish Jewelry

    Shanore Jewelry grew in popularity as interest in Irish and Celtic-inspired designs increased both in Ireland and internationally. Very early on in the company's life, they had major success with export orders to the UK, which prompted the founders to focus the company on Irish styles which were becoming very popular in major gift stores around the world in the 80’s and 90’s.

     Its distinctive use of traditional Irish symbols helped the brand stand out, especially as Irish giftware became more popular in overseas markets. Strong export demand and growing recognition in gift stores helped Shanore develop from a small family business into a well-known name in Irish jewelry.

Design Focus 

     ShanOre’s main design focus is taking traditional Irish designs and combining that with modern designs to give us these classy, traditional Irish pieces we know and love. Many, if not almost all of the brand’s pieces feature recognizable Celtic and Irish symbols, such as the Claddagh, Celtic knots, and shamrocks. These designs, as well as the modern and flashy designs, give the jewelry a strong connection to Irish heritage while still being suitable for contemporary styles and everyday wear.

Design Meanings

    Many of ShanOre’s jewelry designs are inspired by traditional Irish and Celtic symbols, with each symbol carrying its own meaning and cultural significance. These designs allow the jewelry to represent ideas such as love, loyalty, heritage, faith, and connection.

The Claddagh is one of the most recognizable Irish symbols and represents love, loyalty, and friendship. The heart represents love, the crown represents loyalty, and the hands represent friendship.

The Celtic Knot is often used to represent eternity, unity, and the idea of an unbroken connection. Its continuous lines have no clear beginning or end, which makes it a popular symbol for lasting relationships.

The Trinity Knot, also known as the Triquetra, is made from three connected points. It can represent different groups of three, including the past, present, and future, or life, death, and rebirth.

The Shamrock is strongly associated with Ireland and is commonly used as a symbol of Irish identity, heritage, and good fortune.

By using these traditional symbols in modern jewelry, ShanOre gives each piece a meaning beyond its appearance and creates a stronger connection to Irish culture.
