History

The classic Cape Cod bracelet began in Dennis, Massachusetts, in the late 1960s. Artist and former teacher John Carey made it at Eden Hand Arts, the small studio he ran with his wife, Eve. 

Early versions were called the Dennis Bracelet or Dennis Screwball Bracelet, not “Cape Cod bracelet.” It was handmade and custom-fitted in their Route 6A shop near Sesuit Harbor.

Rise to fame

Over time, locals and summer visitors turned it into a Cape souvenir and a quiet sign of connection to the region. Most if not all souvenir shops in the Cape are going to have a plethora of Cape Cod Jewelry. Its popularity spread far beyond Massachusetts in the 90s, when actress Amy Jo Johnson wore one on Felicity. Another big boost came in 2010, when Chris Lambton gave one to Ali Fedotowsky on The Bachelorette .
